New Rope Rescue Ability

Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Team have become the second team in the country to be declared operational on our new rope rescue equipment. The equipment which is supplied by Lyon Equipment Ltd, allows the team to operate with much greater safety and flexibility than with the previous equipment. The team have received training at 3 levels including awareness, operator and technician levels. There are 4 Technicians in the team with more to follow in the future. Technicians are the officers capable of descending down the cliff to a casualty. The new system allows the technician to have greater control of their descent and also allows then to ascend the cliff in order to allow better positioning relative to the casualty.

The team are looking forward to puting their new skills to the test. Training with the flank team at Birling Gap is now underway. Once complete the teams will exercise together to test their skills and abilities.
